Little Wrightie.

Image of "Li'l Wrightie" waving to the camera. This was taken at our 20 week ultrasound a couple of weeks ago - I know I'm a bit slow, but I had to work out how to get the shot onto this page, as I've said before, I'm a technological peasant!!
Anyway, for those of you who have seen these types of pictures before, you will probably find it pretty easy to see the face of our 1st child. It definitely has the Wright nose - with a knob on the end of it - (thanks to Mum's side of the family - which technically makes it a Watters nose I guess). The left hand is slightly in front of the face and that's the umbilical chord across the chest. For those of you looking at something like this for the first time, well, it probably looks like an experiment in a petrie dish as seen through a microscope! Fungal spores perhaps? - Don't ever tell our kid that I once referred to it as "fungal spores" please!
I have to say, it's pretty bloody amazing this ultrasound stuff. Seeing the child's heart beating really gives you a start - "Oh cripes; this is for real!!" Talk about warm and fuzzy. Measurements of bones etc being taken in front of your eyes whilst the information on the screen about delivery dates etc updates continually with each measurement taken, is a pretty cool thing to watch. A close up of the valves in the heart working away and even a colour coded, live action show of the blood pumping through the chambers is mesmerising.
An update on Cat - she is getting slightly bigger by the day and has officially reached the wardrobe crisis point - stuff aint fitting anymore! She is having fun determining what Li'l Wrightie enjoys in the food stakes, as movement inside the belly seems to increase or decrease depending what's been put into her mouth. The comment of "oh, that went down well!" as she inspects her expanding tum after a mouthful of something obviously yummy, makes me chuckle.
On the whole, I reckon she is enjoying the experience. But, as everybody keeps telling us "oh yeah, it's easy now, but you'll see...." with a glint of knowing evil in their eye!
Stay tuned.

The Showgirl!

Believe it or not, I went with Catherine to see Kylie Minogue in concert last night.
There are 3 things completely working against me if I am at all wishing to fit the "Kylie demographic" (which incidentally, I'm not so fussed): I'm 41, I'm male and I'm heterosexual!
Lo and behold there were about 6 or 7 other blokes like me there, not bad out of an audience of approximately 12,000. I was a little surprised at the general age group of the girls and gay guys there - generally in there early to mid 30's - makes sense I guess as they would have watched The Showgirl progress from her halcyon Charlene days in Neighbours to the stunning success she has become.
I take my hat off to her!
It was a fabulous show, one of the slickest and best produced concerts I think I've ever seen. I have to admit, I've never been to see Prince, Michael Jackson nor did I jump on the Kiss bandwagon when I was a teenager, so my experience of "mega" shows is somewhat limited.
Having said all that, it perhaps lacked a little in the way of originality - band and 3 black female back up vocalists very much in the background, splendid sets with elevator platforms so our Kylie can materialise from below the floor, snazzy green laser light effects etc, etc.
The costumes weren't over the top "Priscilla" style (thankfully), but were none the less magnificent, as were the dozen or so dancers - exceptional physiques and constant, energetic choreography. The music wasn't bad and just as I was thinking "excellent; no Locomotion", there was a costume change, out came everybody in the knee high patent leather boots, stockings and garter style one piecers (tassels on the boobs) and Kylie in the Liza Minelli style cabaret wig adorned with the black feather boa mohawk of all things!! The band struck up a raunchy, striptease, grunty sax style nightclub refrain and she launched into - you guessed it - "Locomotion"! It ended up being one of the highlights of the night.
I've just realised I'm virtually doing a complete review here. Sorry, that wasn't my intention. I'll just finish by sharing a bizarre observation - during the final song ("Especially for You"), which I think was intended to make her old hometown Melbourne crowd feel all warm and fuzzy - the big video screens up the back showed this type of Kylie retrospective of all the images we've seen of her over the years from her videos. I was struck by the number of times these images reminded me of my favouirite Aussie girl next door, Elle McPherson! Now there's a showgirl!! If any of you go to the show; you be the judge.

Here we go!!

After spending a couple of weeks in Japan with three of my best web nerd mates, I've decided to attempt to drag myself into the cyber age!! Yes, Pete is going to attempt to maintain a blog.
I figure with the impending arrival of Cat's and my first born - "Lil Wrightie" - family and friends may appreciate the odd bit of updated info, as my mate Dr Jim once said "Pete is not an overwhelmingly frequent correspondant" Ha! he can talk!!
Anyway, by only having to write things once and because I feel there may be a good chance those interested will tune in occasionally, everyone stays updated - WIN WIN!
So once I've worked out how to inform those I know of this little site, I will publish interesting snippets of the life and times of the Wrights of Rosanna.
